Strange worms in Christmas Tree

Bought a Christmas tree a few weeks ago, has been inside since then. Went to get ready to repot it to reintroduce it outside and noticed some little worms in there. I have attached a photo to show you. What are they? Good or bad? The tree seems to be doing fine though.

Were they in the potting soil or on the tree?
Most likely, since the vast majority of these things are not harmful, these are simply there and are not a problem. Given the small size of the worm like thing in the picture I cannot identify it so maybe a visit to your state universities Cooperative Extention Service (if you live in the US) would be of more help.
