sunchoke is choking

| I have 6 sunchokes (Jeruselum artichoke, from the sunflower family) which have all got these tightly curled, thick leathery leaves. No insects present anywhere to be seen or anything to suggest insect damage. They are not growing any further either. I grew them from chopped up roots which were devided. They are in very good mushroom compost with peastraw mulch. Raised beds so are well drained. They are sheltered and well watered once per day. Only first leaves are unaffected
Any ideas? |

| Jeruselum artichokes grow most bestest, in my experience, in soils that are somewhat well amended with organic matter that is evenly moist but well drained. They have not done well in places in the garden that are well amended, a too rich soil, and yours may be. |

kimmsr may be right, I never had that problem. But it sounds like you cut the tubers to small. I did this my first year & with the deer eating down the new growth the chokes died. Next time I planted the chokes whole & got a 100 lbs & replanted most back in the soil. |
