Don't know how you used it but my African violets & dieffenbachia never had a problem with alcohol -- I used it straight from the bottle as a spritz. (I didn't use it on the others you mentioned.)

As for succulents, they're sensitive to numerous things.

Never mind...

I've used it on jade plants many, many times. What is Spanish Ivy? Oh, I think I see a cross reference to Swedish Ivy. Is that right, Mike?

I've used alcohol on Swedish Ivy.

Good to know that alcohol can be used on African Violets. I would have thought that it would be a problem on those fuzzy leaves.

One needs to be cautious about mixing alcohol with other things. I know that I've read about your recipes, Mike, including fish emulsion, soaps, oils, or other stuff WITH the alcohol. I'd say you might be asking for trouble. Also, we need to be careful about how frequently we use our magic elixirs.

Make sense?

Absolutely Rhizzo!!

You have me my antenees go up! Thanks for looking after my plants, and thanks to Jean for that point. Could of been a bad combo at one point, and it never occurred to me until after I posted, and couldn't delete it..:-(

You guys can be counted on to make sure the info stays correct here, and I for one appreciate it, especially coming from experienced gardeners as you both!

You may not post often, but when you do, there is a ton of weight on what you say..Thank you

Therefore, forget I ever posted what I said until I can be certain the next time it was only water and alcohol that killed and scarred these plants. God knows, like you said, I might of sprayed it too frequently too, and that might of caused adverse affects on them. I wonder if the leaves to certain plants can absorb alcohol like they do water, eventually rendering them sick, when sprayed to often?.

Mike..:-)

The leaves of most plant species absorb very little water. Alcohol would not come into play.

You bright up a very good point about doing the leaf testing, Mike. I don't mention that nearly enough. Succulents, such as jade, can be very sensitive to insecticidal soaps, oil applications, etc.
