Bug that eat root

Hi everyone, I' new to GardenWeb.
I noticed that my pig face is dying so I dig it up and found there's a lot of bugs inside the soil. The root of my pig face nearly gone. The bug is thick, nearly a ladies small finger.
Has anyone see this before and how to kill it?

That is a grub, the larva of one of the Scarab beetles.
One is not a problem, you need 10 or more per square foot to have problems.
Scarab beetles include the May and June Bugs as well as the Japanese beetles and many others and were the sacred insect of the ancient Egyptians.
