blackberries without bird netting???

I have 2 Kiowa blackberry plants in my garden. Last year I used bird netting on them to prevent bird damage to the berries. While no birds got any berries, it was a pain to harvest because the openings in the netting were way too small for the jumbo sized fruits. In addition, it was a pain to put up and remove the netting with the thorns.

This year my plants have tripled in size with canes running wild in every single direction. I am going to use a trellising system but I am tempted to forgo the netting. We have a variety of birds here. So what else can I do to deter the birds? I understand that it won't be 100% but I guess I can live with a relatively high percentage. Any thoughts? Thanks so much!!
