red bug infestation

Hi,

I had these red bugs in my garden last year and they seem to have returned. They don't appear to be able to fly, and they crawl very slowly.
They destroyed my cucumbers and did a number on my tomatoes and I can't figure out what they are or how to get rid of them.

Can we see a picture of the upper side instead of the tummy?

The reason I ask is because it looks more like the nymph of one of the many species of assassin bug, which are beneficial predators in our garden.

Are you SURE that these insects were after your plants or after other pests that might be doing the real damage?

But I need to see a better picture to be able to make an ID.
