Funny leaf growth meaning? Tropical Milkweed Indoor Overwinter

Hi,

Been nursing along my first over-winter Tropical Milkweed cuttings. Have had to cut up or trim back or re-pot, since they'd be way too early for any use.

The leaves are coming in funny on the latest couple of batches. Unlike any parent or previous growth. Do the photos suggest anything to viewers?

First thought it might have been larvae of the very few visible fungus gnats hanging around, but after re-potting in new soil haven't seen any more gnats at all.

The plants (because of no other choice) are in a very dry and warm indoor environment with about 7 hrs of fluorescent light per day. (Hard to tell with fluorescent, but they may be less of a rich green than appears on my monitor in the attached digi-cam photo.) Soil used from same bag (standard MG), and same watering when looks dry, as had done previously.

Thanks for any comments for this newbie.
