Deer did quite a number on the roses!

We must have had a hard winter, and I've heard, and seen deer eat just about anything during the winter to survive. I think their metabolism actually changes so they can digest almost anything in the winter.

BUT, when I saw how much of the rose bushs they ate I was surprised. These are no wimpy rose bushes either, the thorns are NASTY, not like a wimpy bramble. Anyway, no damage done because I prune them hard in the spring, but man they CAN eat anything. And FWIW their teeth are sharp, because the branches actually looked pruned the way they were neatly sliced off. The weird part is that we have a fenced backyard because of our pool, and we have been known toaccidently leave the gate(s) open from time to time.......not anymore. Lucky we didn't find a dead deer in the pool and a destroyed cover. Oh yeah.....they ate some of the blueberry bushes for dessert.........wasn't to pleased with that.
