I've not known gophers to spend much time trying to get into containers, even plastic, when they can simply reach into that container to get the food they want.

I wouldnt think they can get over 12". I have seen them crawl over 4" of wire mesh sticking out of the ground.

Put castor beans in their holes. Worked great for us. Eventually they either died from eating them or moved on.

I have seen gophers climb 4 foot fences, just as raccoons, opossums, and many others will so yes they could, if they wanted to, climb into a foot tall pot. Most often these buggers will try to burrow under a barrier, but they could climb.

Just spied a gopher perusing my garden! I plant everything in plastic and terracotta containers. I have a couple of fabric containers with potatoes in them, as well. Should I be worried about the gophers getting my plants? (Do I need to buy some wire mesh to protect them?)
