Getting rid of fungal infection azalea/camellia

Hi!
I've learned an incredible amount from searching out my every gardening question here. Thank you all for such great information.

I'm in southeastern Virginia. We just bought a house last summer and I'm gardening-for-real for the first time. (Woohoooo!)
The azaleas and a very large, luscious Camellia bush in the front yard have a positively identified fungus. The autopsy is being done at the extension to find out which one exactly. In the meantime, I'm anxious to get started making a garden (ornamental) around those dang bushes.
One azalea is past saving (and ugly) and I'm flexible about some of the others. But the camellia is taking it hard and must be helped. I just searched here for info about Daconil (which I bought at HD) and YIKES! The extension suggested that I use that, as opposed to copper sulfide which seemed to be the other option, and that it will take more than a year to get rid of an existing fungus. They basically left the advice at that.

What do I do? And how? And when?
Suggestions and advice seriously sought. Thanks.
