Odd Gerbera coloration.... a breaking virus or genetics?

I have a little house Gerbera (a Gerbera hybrida most likely) that is doing something a little bit strange with it's coloration. It was, in fact, the coloration that got it a home. It seems like this plant can't decide if it is orange or yellow. Heck, it'll even produce flowers that are a mix of both in a fabulous color block layout! The petals of these mixed flowers are of one solid color, except for one petal (and one petal only) that was divided exactly dead center with orange on one side and yellow on the other. The plant seems healthy and normal, coloration aside. A picture of my plant can be found here much larger:

In my searching the internet for an explanation, I came across this pic on flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/23782244@N02/2348079699/

Same color theme going on and everything!

So... is this simply an not-often-documented genetic variant or is it something more sinister, like a virus (it is my understanding that a virus is responsible for those splicing misfit daisies http://www.flickr.com/photos/kimberly_wilkie/483954715/ )Any thoughts?

This is my first post btw, on an account created solely for the purpose of getting to the bottom of this. X3
