These are the dread Squash Bugs. They go through several stages before adulthood. Start looking for clutches of dark amber eggs on the underside of leaves at the intersection of the veins and pick those leaves or tear out that section and dispose of. As they get older they are almost immune to anything other than just picking them off. Look up Squash bug eggs so you know what to look for.Good luck.

They are not Squash bug nymphs (am certain about that), but am undecided as to whether they are one of the assassin bugs or a leaf footed bug nymph.

Those may be a stage of development of Assassin Bugs, a beneficial insect that can help you control other insects in your garden.

No, they are NOT the beneficial Milkweed Assasin bug.

They are nymph (young) Leaf-Footed Bugs. You can tell by the way they cluster together. GET RID OF THEM! They are no good! :-) Sorry, I'm mostly pro-bug, but these are one of the enemies of gardens. No mercy should be shown.

P.S. Nymph Leaf-Footed Bugs tend to be orange and black, while Milkweed Assassin Bugs are usually red and black. The first is very communal, but the second live by themselves. I routinely run into each type, and have gotten good at telling them apart. There's our bug lesson for the day :-)
