Who ate my clematis?

See the flower petal on the right? Is this a rabbit's work, or maybe a slug? Plant isn't too high, maybe a foot or 18 inches. It was perfectly fine last evening when I took another picture.

one petal.. makes me think mechanical damage .... blowing in the wind.. etc ...

bugs and vermin are usually not that dainty ...

regardless .. one petal would not make me look for a solution ...

Too toxic for a mammal. Slug, beetle or earwig maybe.

Does crushed eggshell really work to deter slugs, or I need to go out and buy something? I have seen holes on the iris, and have seen slugs when digging around plants. How do you crush the eggshells, by hand, on in a blender - I mean I'm trying to find out how fine it has to be.

Crushed eggshells are a bit of beloved folklore. No, they don't work. Slime is for avoiding such perils.
