Caterpillars on rose

We found a rose growing under azaleas the first year in this house. I trimmed the azaleas and then last year the rose grew but was attacked by pests. This year I was letting it grow with the hope that someone here would be able to identify it once it flowers, but once again, the leaves are being destroyed. I was thinking spider mites because I have seem some strands of spider web nearby but found caterpillars on the underside of the leaves today. They are small, and blend with the leaf color{{gwi:807}}. Upon closer inspection, I found even smaller ones, which seem even lighter in color, and are so small and narrow, they almost look like worms. There's another rose nearby but just this one got attacked last year as well as this time. How to control the caterpillars? Do the leaves indicate some other problem as well? I can post a picture of the caterpillar if that will be helpful.
