Each year I used to have the life sucked right out of my Fritillaria by Red Lily Bugs. Last fall I saw in Brent & Becky's Catalogue that dusting [complety] the plants with wood ash should be effective. I tried it this year and... it really works! So I wanted to share this as widely as possible. Rinse the ash off after 20-30 min, then repeat when they show up again, I suspect from eggs in the soil. I works for lilies too.
