Here's another picture of what my pea leaves look like.

Slugs? Snails? Check at night.

look for caterpillars of the exact color of the plant ... hiding somewhere on the plant .. not far from the damage ...

also sow bugs are possible.. roly polys ...

if you cant find it... you havent tried hard enough ... or its gone

and if its only the leaves closest to the ground... look for ground based vermin ... like cutworms... that hide in the dirt during the day ...

and finally ... are you positive its not old damage ... if its only those oldest leaves near the ground ..... and all new growth is unaffected ... the beast may be long gone ...

A lot of the damage is closest to the ground. New growth is still untouched. I'll keep checking for caterpillars and at night to see if I can figure it out. I have some eggshells drying out to sprinkle around the plants. I also have neem oil I can spray. Thanks for the help!

I can see slugs in the picture! Sprinkle some Sluggo pellets (they're organic, iron phosphate)
at the base of plants. It works.

I only opened this thread to see if it was slugs, since you say peas... I say slugs. LOL I do look here though to be on top of things and learn if there really is anything else that favors the peas. After all, this may be a native PNW, more specific, automatic reaction. We grow quite the variety of slugs very well here.

Haha. Wow! I just noticed the slug. That's really sad. Glad that's the problem. Not too bad of a fix. ;)

In fact, we had the advantage. I find it much easier to figure out many of my garden questions by looking at a photo, rather than the whole plant/ area. The last couple years I've gone so far as intentionally taking photos for diagnostic purposes... no other reason.
