Insect attacking mulberry trees

Can anyone tell me what kind of insect does this kind of damage to mulberry trees? I'm suspecting shothole borers, but want to be sure. There are 6 trees in my yard that are affected to varying degrees. One, or possibly two of which are too far gone to be saved.

Does anyone have experience using http://www.bayeradvanced.com/insects-pests/products/12-month-tree-shrub-insect-control-landscape-formula to deal with this kind of damage, and if so, have you been successful?

When a tree has shothole borers, the borers usually spell the end of the line for an already stressed tree.

You would be wise to have several certified arborists over for an onsite evaluation. Compare their opinions then chose one.

you can NOT use a systemic on a tree that you eat things off of...

that dead wood has been there many years.. and was NOT caused by these bugs ... they came after ...

The tree is non-bearing. Here's another picture of the damage.

AS was said, that damage is years old.

If termites are causing the damage in a living tree, a termite killer won't work. Neither will anything else.
