harvesting finger potatoes - fire ants

I've read some of the other postings here on fire ants. I have red and yellow finger potatoes in half barrel containers and I treated with spinosid and I still think I have fire ants in my containers. I need to harvest these potatoes (I have no idea of their condtions) do you think if I dumped them out a tarp and left them alone for the day they would leave whatever mound there was? I'm not sure of am approach with this issue. Any advice? I know it's going to be a dangerous proposition.

austinmember, I thought of elbow length gloves; then a repellent to smear on said gloves.

Well as a follow up...I decided to dump out the container on a cloth and stand back. It seems that there were some foraging fireants but I found much more pill bugs, worms, etc (very good soil mix and 100% no pesticide) and I found very few imported fire ants. I saw a few sugar ants but I think the pill bugs are an enemy of fire ants so they must have kept them down and the potatoes looked fine. whew!
