Hydrogen Peroxide Treatment Question

I just received an email message from a co-worker recommending that I spray or water the plants in my garden and my house plants with a solution of one ounce of 3% hydrogen peroxide to a quart of water and that if I do this I'd have the finest plants in the neighborhood. The message also suggests I spray the ground at the base of my plants and that I can spray the same solution on cut flowers and add a little to the water to make them last 50% longer.

Has anyone tried this method out?

I am considering trying it on my irises and daylilies, and want to make certain it won't harm them before I try this out.
