Something like perlite killed my seedlings

I have strawberry seedlings which where developing very well.
for some reason they began to die.
i took one dieing plant and checked it's soil.
it had things that looked like Perlite in it, but i put no Perlite in it.
all of the roots where missing only a tiny thin root.
i looked for some bug to be seen but there was none that i could see.
i did also found one small yellow brown tiny ball that looked like one pellet of long term fertilizer.
but i did not put Perlite or long term fertilizer in the soil.

what could it be?
what is killing my seedlings?
how can i treat it?

where you are..

when they were planted ...

how did you receive them .. bare root.. etc ...

how you amended the soil.. what is your base soil .... how you have been watering them

and what kind of strawberries we are talking about ...

My neighbor (a farmer) told me to take them out of the put and directly into the ground, it seems a bit drastic but...
I'll try to move one seedling into a new pot with fresh soil tomorrow, and i hope I'll have some photos then, and I'll add all additional info.

If those strawberries were planted in pots and a commercial potting mix was used to fill the pots then there was perlite, or vermiculite, and most probably some kind of fertilizer in that potting mix. However, neither is likely to be the cause of the plants dying.
