Ticks, like many other arthropods, need a moist environment to live and grow in so keeping the areas around the house dry is one step. Insecticides containing pyrethrins cna help but that material is a broad spectrum poison that kills every insect, including the beneficials, it contacts.
While I have seen some comments that lime might help nothing from any university indicates it does.
