Fill a container (like a plastic dish pan) full of cool water with a little mild dish soap and simple soak your cut flowers for a few minutes. I can usually chase out tiny thrips with that treatment!

After five or ten minutes, pull the flowers out and gently tap them to remove most of the water...allow them to air dry out of the sun before bringing inside. You could arrange them in the vases at that time and let them dry while sitting in water.

Sometimes if I leave the vase outside for a while before bringing it in, the buggies will go away, not always though, but worth a try if water ruins your bloom. I do rinse a lot of them off, too, and they'll surprise you the way they look OK after they dry. Rhizo's method sounds a lot less traumatic to the bloom.
