I've used cayenne pepper powder, dusted liberally on the soil of containers. It seemed to work fairly well. It will have to be reapplied after a rainfall or watering.

Sorry about your cat....they can do a good job of keeping the chipmunks away.

Thanks rhizo! Great idea. But what is he eating? There's just a hole where he's been digging. No worms in my pots - maybe some pill bugs. But I'll use the cayenne tomorrow morning!

He's digging around to see if he's buried something in the pot OR he's foraging for something you planted that he might like to snack on. Be careful that he's not planting acorns!

When I've planted a flat full of seeds, bulbs or whatever, I always secure a piece of hardware cloth over the container until germination....then I begin with the cayenne.
