Yep, your'e correct. The outcome depends upon how large a dose the plants received.

Not only does 2,4-D cause severe growth problems with any plant if contacts the leaves of but many plants are also very sensitive to any that hits the soil around them. There is nothing you can do except wait out this problem if that poison did not outright kill those plants. They may, with care, recover from that spraying.

if i were you.. i would wait and see on those.. and in the mean time.. go get some new ones.. its probably not to late to still get some young nursery stock ..

Yeah, we have already planned some replanting of the plants that look the worst.. I'm just really hoping the majority of my plants can pull out of it. We have continued regular watering on them all, but i wonder if it would be helpful or harmful to fertilize them at this point. Any thoughts? Has anybody been in this situation before and had their plants survive?

Tomatoes (and grapes) are especially sensitive to 2, 4-D. Really, the only thing fertilizer can correct is missing nutrients, it's not a cure all that's going to resolve an herbicide drift - sadly I think you'd be wasting your time and product.

For a first year garden, it looks like you've put some time and effort into it - I would hope you've pointed out the damage to your neighbor.

Just out of curiosity, how was the chemical applied? (What kind of equipment?)

DO NOT EVER fertilize plants with herbicide damage!! You will not be able to eat the produce from these plants. You may wish to file a claim with your state's Department of Agriculture.
