When I see clusters of pale, barrel shaped eggs, I think of green stinkbugs.

Wow, those are big eggs!! I'm surprised they are on the upper side of the leaf (I've mostly seen underside). You ought to put them all in a container and see what emerges. It could be one of many types of bugs.

I agree with Jim...you're assignment is to place that leaf with a little bit of the stem in a jar and see what emerges.

I have a feeling the "Stinkbug" theory might be correct, I found another closeup picture of them and it's a pretty good match:

I might quarantine them in a container and see what hatches, but it looks like stink bug eggs. The leaf itself is only about an inch long, (its a really close-up photo). I used a macro lens to capture it.
So does anyone have any use for any (assumed) stinkbug eggs? You will get them free of charge :)

Stink bug eggs look like little barrels.

Your eggs are round.

Any chance these eggs could be a good stink bug? (better known as a soldier bug?). I have the eggs in a ventilated clear plastic container, so we'll see what happens. I'm not as familiar with these but it seems possible it could be soldier bugs too. Probably stink bugs though. We had damage on our tomatoes last year which looked like a virus (yellow splotches on leaves and fruit) but I guess it could have possibly been stink bugs, and now they are re-populating for this year (or trying to).
I'll get more pictures if anything changes or starts hatching.

Jean, if you look at the OP 's attached image in the first post, you will see that these eggs are clearly barrel shaped. They do look perfectly round in the imbedded image, but the great close-up shows otherwise. You can even see that little fringe around the "barrel lid ".

KS, the eggs of the spined soldier bug, though also barrel shaped have a much more pronounced fringe around the 'lid'. The eggs are usually referred to as 'spiny'.

Have your eggs begun to change color yet? Insect eggs usually get darker and darker as the nymph begins to take form inside.

Blogs are not the best place, in most instances, to find accurate identifications of insects...unless it happens to be a specialty of the blogger.

The first image is terrific, though I have never seen a spined soldier bug like that. Wonder where (which country) that images was taken.

There seems to be so many variations of both soldier bugs and stink bugs, with so many characteristics that are interchangeable, it seems extremely hard to be certain of anything.
I forgot to answer your last question.. the eggs are the same, and the same color, nothing has changed yet. Is it possible that since they were laid on top of the leaf, they were exposed to too much sun and now not viable? I guess we'll wait and see what happens.
