some katydid adults mainly go from orchard to orchard. here in texas they attack oak trees. there the crickets you hear at night and what you are seeing are there eggs. unless you have a lot of oaks and orchards trees. not worth spraying any chemicals to control. just cut the limb off and distroy the eggs.
sounds like you got the ones that jump from orchard to orchard hence them attacking your tomato plant.
i had some one year and just removed them.

Thanks for your input Jean and Steven. I did remove the limb from my tomato plant. I figured it was insect eggs, but had no idea what type. It is interesting to know especially if I see them again. I do hear cricket noises, so this must be what I am hearing. Our neighbors have an oak tree that goes into our back yard so this is also confirmation why we have them. Thanks again!
