I wanna kill whatever did this!

My 4' tall Kadota fig was found dead in this condition. Just 2 days ago, it was healthy, I was looking forward to getting some fruits. From the teeth mark, what do you guys think? Ground squirrel, gopher, or?? There are ground squirrels around my area, but in 7 years I've never any plant die like this. Would rabbits do this? Thanks,

You may still be able to get parts of it to root. Sorry, no idea what critter might do that.

Beaver? It's quite hot and dry where I am, not like Oregon or Washington, where I understand beavers can be a problem.

Squirrel maybe. They chew when they are thirsty? Leave a pan of water out. I don't know if you have armadillos ...do they chew tree bark?

Maybe a woodchuck? We usually call them groundhogs or whistle pigs around here.
