Help! Strange growth on Abutilon

Hello. I have a yellow abutilon that seems to be growing well. However, I just noticed some strange black growth, see picture, growing on some of the stems. I can pluck it off and the black growth seems empty. I am also seeing a lot of ants crawling on it. Almost looks like it's eating the leaves. Can someone help me identify the problems and help find a cure? Should I worry?

Scale insects secrete honeydew, which ants are attracted to (just as they're attracted to the honeydew secreted by aphids).

And abutilon are apparently subject to infestations of two types of scale insects:
