black raspberries

My berry bushes started out very well in a wet spring and now there are bushes dying with the fruit on them. Early in spring I cleaned out the dead canes from last year, trimmed the canes and tried to tie some into groups, very loosely. And now there is ectensive dying, mostly in the canes I tied up.

What is the soil these are growing in like?
Have you talked with the people at your local University of Minnesota Cooperative Extension Service office?
