Yikes! That's a terrible scale insect infestation. The insects have been there for quite some time, that kind of infestation doesn't happen overnight.

This is one of those times where I would have to ask you how attached you are to this one plant. If it were mine, I'd get rid of the whole thing!

yeah, I know its pretty bad. I was away for a while and didn't see it coming. The plant is kind of rare and I don't want to get rid of it.

Is this a container grown plant? Is it inside or outside? Do you use it for culinary purposes?

(I see questions about this plant very frequently so I'm thinking that it's not all that rare in case you should have to replace it.)

It is outside. No, I don't use it for culinary purpose. I will check the nursery if they got this.

A scale infestation can be brought under control if caught early. Horticultural oils are very effective against scale, when applied properly. Hort. oils are the most recommended solution for these pests, by far. This is not the ideal time of year, however, as they shouldn't be applied in hot weather.

Thank you, Rhizo. No, it is not in a container. I showed it to some guy from nursery and he said it is mealybug and suggested Lambda Cyhalothrin

Your nursery guy is one hundred percent wrong....and I'm one hundred percent positive that you have a major scale infestation. (And I'm right!)

I'd never recommend a pyrethroid to control scale insects.....hope you didn't buy any.
