Bitter Melon roots is drying out

Hi I am very new to gardening. I grew several bitter melon plant this year and they are growing and healthy until now.

3 of the plants seemed to be wilting one at a time and I see that the bottom of the stem had dried off and cutoff nutrients to the rest of the plants and they died

I saw another plant with leaving wilting this morning as it was not enough eater. When I inspect the plant, everything looks good and I don't see drying of the stem at all. I suspend the roots are drying off and then works it's way up the stem and cause plant to die

Anyone know what is going on? is there any way I can protect the rest of the plants?

Also these plants are planted in pots. Some with two plants in one pot, but one one wilted and the other is healthy

Thanks in advance!
