Caelian, it is possible to damage sensitive flowers, but the buds should be fine. Did you make sure that you sprayed the underside of the foliage?

If it's the hedge with the problems and not the container plants, there was no reason to spray the containers.

Many people claim that they have better luck with a horticultural oil of some kind than anything else....for whiteflies. I have found that to be the case in my experience. Also, I'm not so sure that horticultural soap will be very effective against the leaf hoppers. But YOU will be the best judge of how well it works....you are very observant.

Rhizo, I did spray underside foliage too. When I trimmed the hedge they were flaying around and I was worried. I did not spray to the hedge because it has dense leaves and it'd be a bit difficult to spray properly. I let them stay there and on the other hand insecticides/pesticide are very expensive here.

The plants are chilies and tomatoes mainly, chilies have a lot of flowers and tomatoes are also have flowers but I did not spray like I did on chilies. Now I have not found any whitefly and leafhopper on my chili plants. I do not know much about insecticide and pesticide, last year I had bad experiences with some insecticide since then I am very hesitated to use any of them. This season my plants are healthy and strong so I wish today's spray won't bring any undesirable result.

The reason that spraying might not have been such a good idea is because insecticidal soaps have no residual effect. Once it dries....it does not kill anything. It's a product that has to be applied directly on the pest.....when you see the pest. Never as a precaution.

Caelian, don't ever hesitate to ask questions about pesticides in this forum. Your concerns are bound to be those of others, too. Everybody can learn from each others ' questions.
