Never seen what a cucumber looked like before until today..I've searched and searched through These forest of cucs ( some 10 ft tall already )...and once I seen one I started seeing a lot once I knew what they looked like..didn't see any over 2 inches..they are all just starting. There's also tons of blooms all under the plants...is that bad?
Cucumber beetle. They feed on flowers and pollen mostly at this time of year. I started seeing some, too. Go out and squish them. Look in each flower in the early evening and be ready to pounce-- they will not bite you.
I make a potent wash from garlic and hot chilis (a few squirts of sriracha or a chopped up hot pepper from my garden or both), and dish soap or horticultural oil and spray my leaves-- to deter them from the plant. I've been after them and stink bugs over the last three days. I've tried to avoid the flowers and good bugs, but this morning I was out spraying and I didn't see my normal level of bees. So I went back in the house for a Q-tip and started hand pollinating my cucumbers.
I'm hoping that a week or so of spraying morning and evening with my homemade mix will deter them enough, and when combined with my hand-pollinating and killing I can leave off a bit with the spray.
Next year I am planting tansy in with my cukes.
Don't let them go! Go out and start killing. Check the undersides of leaves on the plant for eggs.
Also, that looks like sun scald on your leaves. I wouldn't worry about it. It might stress your plant, though, so you may want to consider more water/misting. Maybe consider covering with a lightweight, light colored sheet or cloth. I'm no expert on sunscald as I have three humongous and devilish maples in my yard, but maybe someone else here can tell you how to treat it.
