Can my cherry tree be saved?

I just moved into a new house that has a row of cherry trees (don't know what kind) lining the driveway. The first tree is sick. I'd like to try to save it. It looks about half dead, but it's not evenly dead (if that makes sense). Some healthy branches come off of dead looking ones. Now however the leaves on the "good" parts are drooping and turning yellow/brown. It is the only tree with lichen(?) on it. All the others are very happy.

Can someone tell me what is wrong with it?

Do you think it can be saved?

Should I be concerned for my healthy trees?

You'd spend a lot of time & effort to try to save it. If you want a cherry tree, you'd be wise to start over with a healthy specimen.

At the same time, know that cherry trees have numerous problems in many regions. Around here, several diseases take them out.

whats wrong with it....

it was abused by the prior owner hacking at it with a sledge hammer...

there is NOTHING there worth spending a dollar or a minute to save...

get rid to it... what a nightmare ...

ps: i tried to save and renovate every piece of carp at my first house... it took me 5 years to get rid of the last nightmare... come house #2 ... i simply cut down every problem.. and was all set to go in one week .. lol ... waste 5 years.. or plant your own nightmares.. your choice...
