Just what does the term 'psychedelic' mean to you? Colors? Patterns? And they crawled rather than flew or jumped?

lol. Yeah, iridescent would be a better description.
All of the ones I saw crawled. I tried stepping on one to catch it, but it was a resilient booger that kept running even after getting stepped on, so all I got was a tiny piece of it that came off. It was really colorful - shiny purple, green, and blue. Maybe a bit of yellow. It would've been pretty if they hadn't startled me so badly by running from the plant all of the sudden.

One possibility (since you mentioned their speed) would be Tiger Beetles, which are beneficial insects. Tiger Beetles are very fast runners and some are iridescent. They're known to run (very fast) or fly when approached.

Could also be a Harlequin Bug, Japanese Beetle, or something else.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm hoping it's the Tiger Beetle, which seems to match fairy well to what I think I saw of it.
