Plants are drying out. Soil may be too dry. Possible complications: and/or windy days and/or low humidity.

That looks to me like leaf scortch, a condition caused when the leaves loose moister faster than it can be replaced from the soil.

dryng out faster--that sounds like it may be it. They are actually picking up and looking better since I started watering them daily.

They are in a "square foot" bed--perhaps too shallow and so not enough moisture.
