please help! are these tress dying?

I'm new here so forgive me if my question has been posted previously. I have attached a picture of tress in my back yard that have suddenly started to turn brown, one by one. Are they dying? Or could this possibly be blamed on an extremely hot/dry summer? Or some sort of disease? We have had a cooler and damper last few weeks. Could it be that these trees can heal themselves with better weather? It almost appears that whatever is happening to these trees is spreading and I'm worried that I will be soon replacing at least some of these 30 trees. PLEASE HELP! Thank you kindly.

they are arbs [conifers] .. aka thuja.. probably smargard.. aka 'emerald green'

yes.. those branches are dead ... cut them out.. and then decide if you can look at what is left ...

not many facts to go on.. yes.. drought could have done it.. but that lawn hasnt been in drought.. no matter what you think ... heat alone should not have done that ...

more likely.. i would bet on improper planting.. how long have they been there???? .. were they large transplants .. . can you provide any other history ??

also.. noting the perfection of the grass.. it could have been drift of weed control lawn sprays

i see the fence at the bottom.. are they yours.. ???

I'll bet that the "fence " is a porch railing.

Arborvitae can be prone to disease issues if the conditions are right....for the disease. That's something to consider.
