Harlequin bugs- serious problem?

I noticed in my front perrenial garden bed some harlequin bugs (shaped like stink bugs but shiny black with red marks). I read in a book they can be truly destructive, and saw their damagage on a few plants. I've only handpicked them so far.
Anyone had experience with these bugs?

Harlequin Bugs can be a problem in the garden although some sites with good information (those that are not too interestred in selling you something) will say they are more interested in plants we consider "weeds".
Most every source of good information I have found says control, if necessary, is best acheived through hand picking.

Here is a link that might be useful: Harlequin Bugs
