Identification of a black beetle

Found this beetle crawling across the ground of the property I'm in the process of building a house on.(Just north of Dallas, TX) Can anyone identify it for me? I am hoping it's not the species that bores into pine trees. We don't really have any pines growing in this area. It was rather large in size, I was under the impression that the bark beetles were smaller so they could bore into trees. Help please?

It is difficult to make an ID from this image. I'll suggest that you look at images of black dung beetles for comparison....or black ground beetles. Once you have done that, let us know what's different.

By the way, borers come in a variety of sizes. The picture is not that of one of the pine tree borers, however.

Ah... black ground beetle looks very similar, not so much the black dung beetle. Easy enough, thank you rhizo_1
