To avoid inadvertently walking into a web, carry an upright stick some distance in front of your face. (Yes, I know that's a challenge when you're taking out the garbage!)

Lol, jean! We have one that builds her web using our larger, city issued, garbage container as one of the attachment points. She makes a new one every evening, but I'll often get caught on the remnants of the previous night's web.

I haven't gone out at night to see what kind it is. These spiders can be nocturnal or diurnal. Ours all seem to be nocturnal.

That you have many, large spiders means they are catching and dining on many insects. Spiders are passive insect controllers, mostly, and must spin webs to trap their prey. The absence of spiders, and their webs, could mean a very small insect population which could be a bad thing.
