Wow, I wish I'd posted these last week when I took them. And that I had a better camera. Again, this guy was pretty cool. He is orange with light green speckled dots on him. I mean the green seemed to have black dots close to the edges of the green dots. Oh shoot! I need a better camera! It's just too hard to describe these citters.

Here's another pic but I don't see how you guys are going to be able to identify them. These pics look even worse when posted than they do on my computer!

Are you sure that it's a caterpillar and not a moth? The coloring looks awfully like that of the very skinny Ailanthus Webworm moth. All they do is visit flowers. But, as you say...it is difficult to tell for certain with those images.
Here is a link that might be useful: Check for comparison

No mistaking that color pattern, even with my mature vision and blurry pix. Its the webworm moth, alright. I remember the first time I noticed one and wondered, "What the heck kind of beetle is this?!" tj

You're correct, Rhizo & jt! He/She was a Ailanthus Webworm moth, I think Atteva Ergatica, to be more specific. I don't remember the legs & so forth but I was looking at his color more than his body.

We're just not used to seeing such a streamlined little moth....and so attractive that we forget to put on our Mr. Magoo glasses!
