Theres something killing my Australian fern.

I went on vacation (1 1/2) and came back to find one of my Australian fern trees dying. Theres something on it that seems to be the culprit (see pics). I dont know if its a disease, fungi..?. Any suggestions on what I should do to treat it or is it too late. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Umm, now that I see the entire trunk, I strongly suspect the fern is dead.

I was going to suggest you cut it off and re-root it but, without any fronds topside, that won't work. Looks like time for a replacement. Sorry.

Yeah, my neighbor with the green thumb said it looked dead too. I was hoping to save it. What a shame. Ive had it for years. Hopefully whatever killed it doesnt carry over to a second one I have to the right of it which is visble growing past my roof :( Anyway, thanks.
