Poop ID

I picked seven of these off the lawn at the weekend (with the aid of a trowel, I hasten to add). I remain perplexed as to what animal lays these black sticky turds on the lawn. It's not cat or fox and it's not stinky so I don't think it's a badger (no damage to the garden either, which rules out Mr Badger). I can't imagine a squirrel poo looks like this. Is it a hedgehog's....?

Raccoon, yes. They usually go behind a tree or some other out of the way area, but I'm noticing more and more "deposits" out in the open.

anita.. you cracked me up ...

on my 5 acres.. they appear to go ... wherever they happen to be walking at the time ...

they do have certain trails ... and they do tend to be thru mulch .. and they use that, rather than out in the lawn ...

and you can tell what wild fruit is in season ... though this pic is slightly out of focus.. it looks like it may have been mulberry season ...

sooo .. its not they they are shy.. and hiding behind a tree .. lol ... its more likely .. thats where the trail is ....

I'm serious though ken...every oak on my property has their scat. I've learned to be careful weeding around the base of oaks. I swear they live up there too.

Definitely coon crap. Our recently acquired pet of the Great Dane variety has stopped the fecal fling fest.

i was just humored to think of one ambling across the property .. then running behind a tree ...

i am sure you are right ...

and i do recall ... one time... standing on the porch late one night.. dead silence.. wondered what some certain noise was ... and getting out the high beam.. and finding two of them.. 40 feet up an oak ... eating acorns ...

the next morn.. the lawn was littered with shells ...

oh.. and it seems... they may end up doing the same thing.. in the same general area ... if the cycle is not broken .... sometimes 5 or 6 times...

geez .. i know way to much on this subject.. lol

Racoon feces............consider it all a vector for roundworm, and a health menace, particularly if there are young children, the elderly or people with compromised immune systems. Not trying to scare you, because racoons are everywhere, and being truthful, I pretty much just avoid areas where they may have developed a latrine, but you should know about this so that you can make informed decisions as to how you want to treat these little gift packages in the future.
