where in the world did you find azalea in bloom in august ...

i would write it all off to transplant shock .. i would not have planted them in august..

and i would not have planted them in as much sun as you seem to infer

water properly ...

They're Encore Azaleas that bloom several times a year.

but transplanting a plant.. in flower ... causes shock..

it will react by sacrificing leaves.. to insure the flowers ... procreation.. survives ...

and though there might be some specific diagnosis of the black spot.. i would submit that it only attacks a stressed plant.. ergo the transplant shock ...

and secondly.. i would never spray a stressed plant... and stress it more ...

just keep it properly watered .... and i predict it will be fine next spring ..

You might want to shade the plant for a few days I use chairs or a laundry basket over some new plantings. Also azaleas prefer not to be in afternoon sun. They will get lace bug in my area when stressed by pm sun. I don't know about the black marks

I think there may be a couple of things going on......transplant shock very likely, also the amount of sunlight they are receiving. And what about water, soil acidity, reflected heat from the brick wall behind them? All of these issues can have a significant impact on how well these plants perform, especially since they are very new.

Are they even hardy for you in Indiana?
