Boxwood Turning Yellow in Center

Hi folks - I attached a photo of one of my green velvet boxwoods, which I planted this past spring. As you can see in the photo it's thinning out in the center of the shrub. A few weeks ago I noticed a chunk of yellow foliage in the center. So I gently tugged at it and they all pulled out very easily. That's why there's this big hole in the center. I'm praying that I don't lose this beautiful evergreen and that the center will push out new growth eventually. Does anyone know if this has to do with too much or too little water? Thanks so much!
