Not a clematis. A passion flower.

Today I saw some life amongst the leaves ... I think.
Can someone give me a guess as to how this happened so suddenly?

Plants do not die overnight, unless hit by frost. The problem has been developing over time and might be due to overwatering or not, only you can tell that. Overwatering is the most common problem we saw at the extension office and the Master Gardeners clinics we had and does present quite similarly to under watering.

I agree ... I know they don't just die overnight unless its a frost. But it did happen fast (ok, maybe not overnight :)
Should I just leave it alone and keep watching it...let it dry out a little, maybe?this is not a Clematis. I made an error. Its a Passion Flower. Can a Passion Flower take sun?

What about strangulation by those tapes you still have on the poor stems? You wouldn't believe how often I've seen that occur.

You shouldn't change your watering practices upon anyone's guess unless you've determined that the suggestion is a possibility. Underwatering looks just like overwatering, by the way.

Only you can decide if the soil has been kept too soggy or bone dry, or if parts of the potting medium volume have been allowed to become hydrophobic. In other words, the answer to the problem might be in the soil.

Pesticide drift is the unintended movement of any pesticide particle or spray through the air to an unintended area. Herbicide drift occurs when an herbicide applied elsewhere ends up harming desireable plants.

Oh... ok... well thankfully I don't use anything like that in my garden. I have moved the plant and am watching it in my 'intensive care' area in the back yard.
