Wasps?

Hello,

I was hoping that I could pick the brains of you good people regarding dozens of little waspy things that have popped up in our yard in the last few days. They seem to love the basil plant and the grape vines. I'm not sure what they are and am hestitant to anger them as I'm allergic to wasps. Except I'm not sure if they are wasps. Any help in identification (or even a course of action) would be brilliant!

Just by way of point out our locale too, it's Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

RE: Wasps?

I've just realised that the wings cover up their markings. I don't have a shot with their wings apart and the little creatures aren't big on voice commands but the body markings are very similar to a European wasp. They are smaller though.

Those are flies. Unlikely to be a problem in any sense of the word.
