Vole Control

Hello everyone,

I was just getting ready to do tulip bulb planting this weekend, weather permitting, when my wife informed me she has now seen what sounds like, from the description, a vole (or several different ones since she's seen it/them a few times)running around the front lawn and in the planting bed in front of the house.

I know nothing of voles apart from what I've now read on the web but it does sound like they might enjoy eating the bulbs. Putting aside my wife's fervent belief that she will now be leapt upon and mauled when exiting the house by this tiny furry kind-of-cute rodent (let me assure you that "kind-of-cute" is most definitely not her opinion), I am torn between live-trapping and cold-blooded murder by trap or poison. I do have to say though, if it comes to live and let live for one of God's tiny creatures, or my bulbs, I'm going with the bulbs hands-down.

I'm being tongue-in-cheek, but seriously, any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

RE: Vole Control

Voles, Meadow or Field mice, are common pest and are more common in a good organic garden because of the mulches used. Mouse traps can be used and can be effective. Poison baits, outside, are probably not a good idea since other, beneficial, animals would also be able to get to them.

Here is a link that might be useful: Anout Voles

RE: Vole Control

Thanks Kimmsr,

I'll start with the mouse trap and see if that takes care of the little fellow(s). The link you provided is rather ominous as to the potential damage if I don't go after it/them!
