Tiny white insect w/ webbing eating my Ceanothus

Need help identifying the pest that's eating my Ceanothus plants ("Yankee Point" variety). They are very small spider-like insects (maybe they are spiders?) that make webs (mostly for transportation it appears). They have been eating my Ceanothus since mid-summer, but it appears they are avoiding all the other plants (monkey flowers, salvias, etc).

I'd like to find an organic method to remove them.

We're located in Santa Cruz, California.

Thanks!

Spiders don't eat plants.

Beyond that, it's likely a small caterpillar which works with in a silken "house" of sorts. Thus, the best management is to squish each webby thing you see which obviously works best if you have a reasonable number of the things.

Actually jean001 there is a vegetarian spider.

Sounds more like spidermites to me. Smaller mites will appear off white with two dark spots, one on each shoulder. I finally had some luck with Toni's home made mite killer after temps started dropping.

Here is a link that might be useful: Toni's home made mite killer

I defy anyone to be able to see the dark spots on the shoulders of a spider mite, with their naked eye. Also, most people wouldn't describe the damage from mites like those of an 'eating' pest.

I think that this critter needs to be accompanied by a photograph for a decent identification. Even an image of the damage would be helpful.

It was said: "Actually jean001 there is a vegetarian spider."

Yes, I heard. But not in this country.

Likely a caterpillar. Can you post a picture or two?

I don't see naked eye anywhere in the OP.
"They are very small spider-like insects (maybe they are spiders?) that make webs (mostly for transportation it appears)." Sounds exactly like spidermites and not caterpillars. I don't know of a caterpillar that uses the web for transportation. Not saying there isn't one.

"They have been eating my Ceanothus since mid-summer" Til OCT 26 seems a little LONG TERM for caterpillars.

A picture(I agree) would be helpful.
