ps: i doubt a bug that size is 'eating all your plants' ... in fact.. the leaves shown .. have not been eaten.. if anything.. its a sucker of vital fluids ...

Amanda, can you describe this insect ....how it behaves? It looks like a whitefly, but your image isn't the best for ID purposes.

Looks like whitefly to me as well, and if you have them in your garden in your location, they came with something from a nursery or greenhouse. If it's on a vegetable plant, they'll soon be winter and they'll die and they WONT overwinter in your locality outside. If it's on your shrubbery or trees, the answer is the same. It would be mostly a problem for you if you keep your plants inside (where they'll happily continue to live and multiply if you don't do something to intervene) or if you have them early in the season on something like veggie plants where they can severely drain them of life and energy, or if you live in a warm climate where they can perpetuate their life cycle outside as well as in. They do not 'eat' plants. If you have chewed up foliage, it's something other than a whitefly doing it. That's assuming the little white creature is even a whitefly. But I've seen them outside in zone six in summer, courtesy of some bedding plants from a vendor who had them in their greenhouses.

Yes that is a white fly assuming it can fly... You probably have hundreds of them around. I have found them in my pepper garden in the last two weeks. What they do is suck the juices from the plant on the underside of the leaves both as larve and as an adult. The leaves will eventually start turning yellow, and may have fungus start forming because they secrete a nectar lake aphids.

Insecticidal soap will put a dent in them, but you have to drench the entire plant to get em.
